Trauma

The symptoms of trauma can be devastating and overwhelming. We may experience physical symptoms like trouble breathing or heaviness in our bodies. We may also experience mental and emotional symptoms like intense anxiety, flashbacks, and going out of our way to avoid things that remind us of the trauma. 

I approach the treatment of trauma by starting with teaching grounding tools that may help to alleviate symptoms, regulate your nervous system, and re-establish a sense of safety in your body. The goal from there is to then process the trauma in a way that is healing rather than re-traumatizing. We'll identify and challenge negative thoughts about yourself, others, or the world that became beliefs due to the trauma and work to replace them with healthier and more adaptive ways of thinking.
